Following a serious work-related injury which required major back surgery, I thought I would be unable to resume normal activities both at home and at work.

Determined to return to normal function, I attempted my own "fitness programme", but the strength and knowledge was just not there to enable me to successfully achieve my goals.

I was referred to Personal Best Fitness and an intensive rehabilitation programme was developed. Commencing with exercises in the pool and continuing on to ground exercises and the use of the gym equipment, including weights, I noticed a huge difference in my strength and ability to carry out daily duties without discomfort.

The rehabilitation programme was so successful that I have now returned to work and am able to perform most normal daily activities.

I found the staff at Personal Best Fitness, especially Matt Lamb who was allocated my case, to be professional, relaxed, friendly and encouraging. Attainable goals were set with regular reviews and assessments.

I wish to thank them and Matt in particular, for assisting me to achieve my goals, and for being equally as determined as myself to reach them.

Two years ago the youngest of my four children was due to start high school. As a confidence boost for him, I offered to join him up to a gym for a few weeks. The only program that I could find that I felt comfortable with was the “Parent and Child” offer at Personal Best Fitness. At first a little hesitantly, I joined him as the “parent” part of the program, and thus began an amazing relationship with personal trainer, Matt Lamb. Over the past two years Matt has helped me gain lost fitness, and along the way I have lost around 20 kilograms of middle age spread. With my increased confidence, strength, and general well being I have felt comfortable in tackling many new life challenges, including completing the 130 kilometre battle version of the Kokoda Track in September last year, joining my younger colleagues from work in a social hockey team, joining a bush-walking club, where I have enjoyed many adventures, and successfully completing the Burnie Ten and City to Casino runs. Matt at all times has been encouraging, enthusiastic, and fun.

After observing the changes in Mum’s life, I decided to join her training sessions with Matt. What fun! Over the past 10 months, I have seen my fitness levels increase. Recently, I have successfully completed the Air Force fitness test, and will be heading off soon to join the Australian Defence Force. Matt has always ensured the sessions are fun and challenging, introducing exciting new skills such as kettlebells to keep me motivated.
